Urban Sociology


Urban sociology is the study of social life and human interaction in metropolitan areas. It is a normative science of sociology, and seeks to study the structures, processes, changes and problems of an urban area providing thus information for planning and policy development.


As in most areas of sociology, in urban sociology and used for statistical analysis, observation, interviews and other methods to study a range of issues including immigration and demography, economy, poverty, racial relations, economic trends and etc.


The School of Chicago is a major influence on the study of urban sociology. Many of their conclusions have been rejected, but the lasting impact of the Chicago school can still be found in today's teachings.
